It is not just a noise background track layered with foreground music; there is drama, description, and sound painting). It is mesmerizing, mysterious, sometimes melancholic... Think about dark passages in "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack or somber moments by TD of the 70s (from Zeit to Encore). But this music is truly original on its own. "Brittleroots" is wholly devoted to swamps. The influence of these places on a person's consciousness is truly powerful even if time itself is able to stop in a water filled with peat. Such places bring back thoughts and feelings that were once forgotten for a long time, causing to plunge into the eternal "now".
Singing birds, crunching rotten trees and other sounds in the album not only complement the electronic sound, but also tirelessly compete with it as well as the fish survives in the peat water of the dead swamp.
In addition, Brittleroots stands out thanks to the combination of sudden melodic moments and rhythms recorded from dried trees. This feature gives the album a zest of psychodelic shades.

If you are a usual player of The Long Dark or The Hunter Call of the Wild in the Medved Taiga reserve, you will probably understand why I like these five winter themed albums so much. If you also have a special place in your heart for The Wendigo by Algernon Blackwood... same thing. Very ominous themes which translate very well the dangerous isolation and cold of winter. Listening to almost any Max Corbacho album, esp. of the last 5-6 years, makes 90% of the ambient music available on Bandcamp sound like cartoons. While Corbacho aspires to emulate his musical heroes, the pioneers of “desert ambient” and drone/em, that in no way takes away from the distinctiveness of his own musical voice.
